1904: Cheng Yanqiu, a famous Peking Opera actor, was born.
1912: Sun Yat-sen (1866–1925) was sworn in as acting president in Nanjing and the foundation of the Republic of China announced. The foundation of the republic signified the end of 2,000 years of feudalism in China.
1942: Twenty-six countries, including China, the Soviet Union, the US and the UK signed the Declaration by the United Nations in Washington, which committed the Allies to fight against Germany, Japan and Italy and not to seek a separate peace with any of them.
1956: The People's Liberation Army Daily newspaper started publication.
1979: China and the United States established diplomatic ties.
1984: China officially became a member state of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
1988: The Tian'anmen rostrum was officially open to the public.
