Sprawling for over 100 km in the southeast of Changjiang County, Bawang Ridge is a national nature of 5,639 hectares established mainly to protect black gibbons, a rare wild animal in China. It boasts over 1,000 species of trees and shrubs, including Antiaris toxicaria, the most poisonous tree in the world, and more than 180 wild animals, such as black gibbons, macaques, and peacock pheasants. Its core area is a typical tropical upland rainforest.
