A landmark of West Lake, Baochu Pagoda (http://www.china.org.cn/english/TR-e/43396.htm) stands atop the Precious Stone Hill. It was built in 968 to bless the return of Qian Chu, the last King of Wuyue State.

The pagoda used to have nine stories, only seven has maintained after repeated repairs. The present brick-and-stone structure, 45 m high, dates back to 1933. It is a solid pagoda supported by a small base with no interior staircase. Because of its unique architectural value, it appears slender as a needle piercing the sky.
