The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) was established on December 13, 2001, five months after Beijing won the right to host the 2008 Olympic Games.

The President of BOCOG was Liu Qi.

Upon its establishment, BOCOG consisted of 26 departments -- responsible for numerous Games functions ranging from venue planning to environmental management.

It was expected to gradually expand its departments and staff to meet the time-sensitive demands of the Olympic preparations. According to the plan, by 2008, there would be more than 30 departments and 4,000 staff working under the BOCOG umbrella.

Its headquarters was located at Beijing Olympic Tower, 267 Beisihuanzhonglu, Haidian, Beijing.

BOCOG was dissolved on August 22, 2009.
