2049 Program

To spread scientific knowledge among the general public, in 1999 the China Association for Science and Technology proposed the "2049 Program" to the Chinese government. The plan envisages equipping the general public with scientific knowledge needed to develop the Chinese society and economy to levels of those moderately developed countries by 2049, the year of the 100th anniversary of the founding the People's Republic of China. It was eormally launched in October 2003.
