1972: China established diplomatic relations with Argentina.

1979: The National Commission of the People’s Republic of China for UNESCO was established.

1997: Deng Xiaoping, the architect of China’s reform and opening up, passed away.

2001: Prominent Chinese scientists Wu Wenjun and Yuan Longping received the country’s highest scientific award from the State Council.
