Located in the south part of Jilin Province, Changbai Mountain is noted for large tracts of forests and the Heavenly Pond (“Tianchi” in Chinese). The natural landscape of Changbai Mountain is particularly well preserved because it has been rarely visited for the past thousand years. The beauty of Changbai Mountain lies in its fantasy-like natural landscape—towering peaks, vast expanses of forests, blue rippling ponds, numerous springs. It also abounds in natural resources, such as the so-called three treasures of Northeast China (ginseng, pilose deer-horn, and mink). In addition, Changbai Mountain is the birthplace of the Manchus, one of the largest minority ethnic groups in China.
