The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), established in 1977, is charged with the responsibility to oversee theoretical and policy research regarding humanities and social sciences throughout China. A top academic organization in the field, the Academy has under it 31 research institutes and 45 research centers, employing over 3,400 research workers, including 142 senior ones with academic status equivalent to that of CAS academicians.
