On October 18, 1995, Chinese and Russian representatives officially validated an agreement on the western section of the boundary between the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation in Beijing. It was signed at the Sino-Russian leadership meeting on September 3, 1994, in Moscow. The 55 km long Sino-Russian western boundary was set between the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regions of China and the Altai Republic of Russia, according to the agreement.
