1866: Chinese democratic revolution forerunner and first president of the Republic of China Sun Yat-sen was born to a poor family in Xiangshan County, Guangdong province.
1910: Famous Chinese mathematician Hua Luogeng was born.
1939: Norman Bethune died.
1969: Liu Shaoqi, former vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the People' s Republic of China, died at the age of 71 in Kaifeng, Henan.
1971: China established a diplomatic relationship with Rwanda.
1986: A Chinese scientific expedition arrived at Wusongkou in Shanghai after five months of drifting in the Yangtze River. The exploration covered about 6,000 km. The team finished a total of 16 scientific projects, including an investigation of a source region of the Yangtze River, as well as the environmental protection and productive exploitation of the upper areas along the river.
