Yang Xiong (杨雄) was elected mayor of Shanghai at the first session of the 14th municipal People's Congress on Feb. 1, 2013.
Yang, born in 1953, was appointed vice mayor of Shanghai in 2003 and became acting mayor of Shanghai in December 2012.
He graduated from the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences with a master's degree in economics in 1985.
