Han Zheng
Mayor of Shanghai
Han Zheng, a native of Cixi County, Zhejiang Province, was born in April 1954. He began work in December 1975 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in May 1979. He achieved a master's degree in economics and is a senior economist.
He graduated from East China Normal University in 1994. He successively served as secretary of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) committee at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Bureau, deputy secretary of the Party committee of the municipal chemical school, secretary of the Party committee and deputy head of the Shanghai No.6 Rubber Shoes Factory, secretary of the Party committee and head of the Shanghai Great China Rubber Plant, deputy secretary and secretary of CYLC Shanghai Committee, deputy Party secretary, acting head and head of the Luwan District, Shanghai, deputy secretary-general of Shanghai municipal government, and head of the municipal planning commission.
From December 1997 to May 2002, he was standing committee member of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee. He was elected as vice mayor of Shanghai in February 1998. In May 2002, he was elected as standing committee member and deputy secretary of the eighth CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and later served as executive vice mayor of Shanghai.
He was elected as mayor of Shanghai at the first session of the 12th Shanghai People's Congress in February 2003.
He was appointed to be acting Party Chief of Shanghai in September 2006.
He is a member of the 16th CPC Central Committee.
