The National Memorial Day (国家公祭日), which falls on December 13, was ratified by China's top legislature on Feb. 27, 2014 to mourn the Nanjing Massacre victims.
The massacre happened across a six-week period in late 1937. Japanese soldiers killed more than 300,000 people in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing, then the capital of the country.
