The State Internet Information Office (国家互联网信息办公室) is an administrative office aimed at pushing forward the legal framework of Internet communication, as well as monitoring and regulating the information available online.
Established on May 4, 2011, the office is registered under the State Council. It was set up to support the development of some major news websites across the country, to guide online gaming, videos and publications, and to punish legal infringements online.
Wang Chen (王晨), former head of the State Information Office, was appointed as first director of the State Internet Information Office in May 2011.
