Wang Zhizhi (王治郅)

Wang Zhizhi (王治郅) was a top player in the Chinese National Men's Basketball Team and Bayi Rocket Club Team. He played for the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Miami Heat from 2001 to 2005, becoming the first non-American player from Asia chosen by the NBA.

He announced his retirement at the end of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league 2013-2014 season. The Bayi's veteran finished with 14 points, six reounds and three assists in his final match against Liaoning Hengye on Feb. 16, 2014.

Born on July 8, 1977 in Beijing, Wang started basketball training at the age of eight in a local spare-time sports school managed by his father. He studied in Beijing's No. 55 Middle School and was trained at the Basketball Club of No. 4 Middle School. He joined the Bayi Youth Team in 1991 and the Bayi Team in 1994. He was chosen by the National Youth Team in 1995 and the National Team in 1996.

Wang was titled the "King of Dunk" in the league matches for Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) for three consecutive years from 1996 to 1998. 216-centimeters tall, skillful technique, and strong personality, Wang has become one of the most brilliant basketball players in China and Asia.

Most Valuable Player (MVP) and gold medal winner in the Asian Youth Basketball Championships in 1996.
