Located at the crossroad of the famous Hengshan Road and Urumqi Road, the Community Church, the largest Christian church in Shanghai, occupies an area of 7,300 sq. m and contains 1,400 seats.
In 1917, before the church was built, an American Christian living in Shanghai organized a choir on Donghu Road. In 1925 the Community Church was founded. Open mainly to American Christians, it was originally named American Church. Only years later was it renamed Community Church. On every Christian festival and also the third Sunday every month a music gathering is held there.
