Dongjiadu Cathedral, the first cathedral in Shanghai, is located southeast of the Old City, and started to be built by Spanish Jesuits in 1853. In terms of size, Dongjiadu Cathedral is as large as Xujiahui Cathedral, and in terms of age, almost twice as old, though the latter is much more famous.
