Zhangjiajie (张家界) is the first national forest park to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
It is hailed as "a magnifed bonsai, a paradise in miniature, and a giant garden." Its thousands of underground limestone caves form a true wonderland.
In addition, it is home to more than 4,000 species of flora and fauna, including 1,280 medicinal plants and 98 rare animals and plants under state protection.
