Chiang Ching-kuo, the son of Chiang Kai-shek, was born in Fenghua, Zhejiang Province, in 1911. When Chiang Kai-shek fell from power in 1949, Ching-kuo accompanied him to Taiwan, and assumed the "presidency" of Taiwan following his father's death in 1978.
Chiang Ching-kuo died on January 13, 1988 in Taipei.
