The ground-breaking ceremony for the 142.69-km Jingjintang Expressway was held in Daxing County, Beijing, on Dec. 10, 1987. It was opened to the public on Sept. 25, 1993.
The expressway was a key project in China's seventh Five-Year period. It was also the first expressway built up with loans from the World Bank through international competitive bidding that involved 32 entrepreneurs from 12 countries and regions.
