On October 2, 1991, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology opened, with a total enrollment of 700 students in its first year. Comprising the School of Technology, School of Science, and School of Industrial and Business Management, HKUST boasted 100 instructors from around the world, including the United States, England, Canada, Japan, Australia and Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
