The Yabuli Ski Ground, situated 25 km to the southeast of Yabuli in Shangzhi County, and 190 km away from Harbin, is the largest and best equipped skiing area in China. It serves as the training base for snow sports.

Yabuli used to be a hunting farm for the imperial family and noble families of the Qing Dynasty. The current Yabuli Ski Ground for tourists was built in 1979. It has hosted the fifth and seventh National Winter Games, and the Third Asian Winter Games in 1996.
