The Dandong Municipal Intermediate People's Court in [[Liaoning Province]] announced on June 13, 2012 that Xie was sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison for taking bribes. He was also fined 200,000 yuan (US$31,340). &lt;br /&gt;

Born on Dec. 1, 1955 in [[Chongqing]], Xie and his brother moved to Baoji, [[Shaanxi Province]], and grew up there. Xie's father was a policeman in charge of household registration.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In 1973, Xie joined the Shaanxi Provincial Track and Field Team as a 100m/200m sprinter and won the provincial championship for the Middle School Track and Field Sports Games.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In early 1979, Xie suffered an accidental injury and became a coach after retiring as an athlete. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In 1980, he enrolled in the Coach Undergraduate Class of Beijing Sports University.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In 1992, he served as Vice President of the Beijing Sports University.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In 1996, he became Director of the Mass Sports Department of the State Commission for Physical Culture and Sports.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In 2000, he became Director of the Athletics Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sport of China (GASC). &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In February 2002, he became Vice Director of the China Institute of Sports Science of the GASC.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In Sep. 2002 he took up the temporary post of Ankang Municipal Party Committee Vice Secretary, in Shaanxi Province.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In Oct. 2004, he became Party Secretary of the Electronic Information Center of the GASC. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In Feb. 2005, he became Vice Chairman of the Chinese Football Association. &lt;br /&gt;

In Sep. 2008, he studied at the Chinese Academy of Governance. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In 2009, he acted as Chairman of the Board of Directors of China Sports Industry Group Co. Ltd.&lt;br /&gt;

In Sep. 2010, he was arrested on suspicion of manipulating football matches and accepting briberies. In April the following year, he was publicly charged and put on trial. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In Dec. 2011, Xie pleaded guilty to the crime of gambling, but said that he &amp;quot;couldn't be regarded as a corrupt official.&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
On Apr. 24, 2012, Xie stood the second trial round for taking bribes, at the Dandong Intermediate People's Court in Liaoning Province. Xie, charged with taking over 1.7 million yuan (US$273,000) in bribes, told the court that he had confessed to some of the alleged charges since someone had &amp;quot;forced him&amp;quot; during earlier interrogations, Xinhua reported. Xie claimed that he had been tortured into confessing to bribe-taking. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Xinhua reported on April 26, 2012 that Liu Leguo, deputy director of Liaoning Public Security Bureau which oversaw the investigative team on Chinese soccer corruption, denounced Xie's claim as &amp;quot;groundless&amp;quot; in an interview with Xinhua.&lt;br /&gt;
