New page

At about 2:50 am on September 29, 2000, a tank wagon carrying 5.2 tons of sodium cyanide veered off the road at Tielingpu, [[Danfeng County]], and plunged into the [[Wuguan River]]. Toxic chemicals were spilt, causing a direct economic loss of 11.88 million yuan.

On December 25, 2001, Danfeng County received a compensation of 8.66 million yuan for the pollution, according to a ruling by the Shangluo prefectural court.

[[Hu Baolin]], a driver, signed a contract with [[Sifang Gold Mine Co.]] in [[Shaanxi Province]] in July 1999, to transport sodium cyanide from [[Hubei Province]]. In September the following year, Hu employed Deng Xiaoqi to go to Hubei with him, even though Deng was not qualified to transport the toxic chemicals. Zhang Guojing, the marketing manager of the Hubei company, approved the delivery without any checks on the two. These three were held responsible for the spill.
