New page

'''Suleyman Minaret''', also known as Emin Minaret or Turpan Minaret, is located about two km southeast of [[Turpan]]. It was built in 1778 by the Turpam Achimbeg Suleyman in memory of his father, Eminhoja.

The 37-m-tall minaret is in the shape of a round cone with a base 10 m in diameter. Completely built with bricks, the minaret is carved with 15 patterns of diamond, water waves, triangles, flowers and petals, etc. Inside the minaret is a spiral staircase with 72 steps leading to the top. The elegant architectural style of the minaret is a full expression of the talents of the Uygur people. The tablet at the entrance inscribed in both Uygur and Chinese records the reason for construction of the minaret. In 1988, this site was listed as a key relic under state protection.
