Dozens of visitors were swept away by the water as they appreciated the tides of the '''Qiantang River''' in [[Xiaoshan City]] of [[Zhejiang]], resulting in 19 confirmed dead and 40 missing.<br />

On the noon of October 3, 1993, some visitors adventured to an unapproved visiting spot on the dam to get a better view of the tides of Qiantang River. Unfortunately, some were whirled away by the precipitate tides while others were dashed against the nearby rocks. By 5 pm of October 4, 19 were confirmed dead, 27 were hospitalized, and 40 were still missing. <br />
