On December 4, 1906, [[Tongmenghui]] organized an armed revolt among secret organizations against the Qing government and miners in [[Pingxiang]], [[Jiangxi]] province, and [[Liuyang]] and [[Liling]] of [[Hunan]] province, which was popularly called the "'''Pingliuli Uprising'''". More than 6,000 people took part in the initial uprising, rising to over 30,000. Led by [[Gong Chuntai]], the rebel army released a manifesto condemning the Qing government and stating their intention to establish a republic to ensure people's equal rights and wellbeing. The uprising soon spread to the middle and lower reaches of the [[Yangtze River]]. The Qing government sent troops from Hunan, [[Hubei]], Jiangxi and [[Jiangsu]] provinces to suppress the uprising, and more than 10,000 people were killed.
