The train set off on [[September 7]] from Paris, France, and finally arrived in Japan via the Federal Republic of Germany, Democratic Republic of Germany, Poland, the Soviet Union and [[China]]. It was the Express's longest route since the 19th century.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The train carried 61 passengers from seven countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Canada and Switzerland. Each passenger paid US$20,000 for the romantic journey. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Express stopped in Beijing for two days before continuing south to [[Shenzhen]].&lt;br /&gt;
