The first National Games consisted of four events: track and field, football, tennis, and basketball. A total of 140 athletes from northern China, southern China, Shanghai and Wuning (Suzhou and Nanjing) participated. In [[1924]], the China National Amateur Athletic Federation was founded in Nanjing and October 18 was the date set to commemorate its foundation. By [[1948]], China had already hosted the National Games seven times.
