On [[September 27]], [[1949]], the song [[March of the Volunteers]] was selected as the '''National Anthem of the People's Republic of China'''. With[[ music]] and [[lyrics]] by [[Nie Er]] (1912-1935) and [[Tian Han]] (1898-1968), the song premiered in [[1935]] as part of the film [[Children of Troubled Times]].

[[March of the Volunteers]] initially earned the status of [[temporary national anthem]] during the [[CPPCC|first session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference]] in [[1949]]. On [[March 5]], [[1978]], the song was formally selected as the [[National Anthem]] during the first session of the [[NPC|fifth National People's Congress (NPC)]].
