'''Liujiaxia Hydropower Station''' is one of the largest of its kind in [[China]]. Situated in the ancient city of Lanzhou, on the [[Yellow River|yellow river]] amongst the mountains in the northwest, it started operation on [[February 4]], [[1975]].

In the middle of the hydropower station array five large-scale China-made water turbo generators, providing electricity to the provinces of [[Shaanxi]], [[Gansu]] and [[Qinghai]]. The hydropower station, designed and built by the Chinese, is about 25-meter wide, 180-meter long and is as high as a 20-storey building. It has a sluicing capacity of 5.7 billion cubic meters, and can generate 5.7 billion kw power a year, more than the annual total generated by all the hydropower stations in the country when the People’s Republic of China was founded. Moreover, it is also a large hinge of water conservancy project used for flood prevention or control, irrigation, reduction of the menace of ice run, and aquatics breeding. During the flood season of the Yellow River, it is capable of reducing the water flow from 8,000 cubic meters per second to 6,000, playing an important protective role for Lanzhou and the downstream areas.
