Dec. 1984: Deputy Divisional Director in the Sichuan Provincial Audit Department.

Feb. 1989: Divisional Director of the Chengdu Resident Office of the National Audit Office of China.

Dec. 1989: Deputy Director General at the Chengdu Resident Office of the National Audit Office of China.

Aug. 1992: Deputy Director General of the Commerce and Trade Audit Department of the National Audit Office of China.

Aug. 1993: Director General of the Commerce and Trade Audit Department of the National Audit Office of China.

Sep. 1996: Deputy Auditor General of the National Audit Office of China.

Mar. 17, 2008: elected Auditor General of the National Audit Office of China at the 1st plenary session of the 11th National People’s Congress of China.

He was a member of the 16th CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and is a member of the 17th CPC Central Committee.

On Oct. 22, 2013, Liu Jiayi succeeded the auditor-general of South Africa to become president of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions for the next three years.
