The temple was destroyed during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900, and only the base of a pagoda named Pagoda for Inviting Immortals (Zhaoxianta) dating back to the [[Liao Dynasty]] (907-1125) was left. When the site was cleared, a sandalwood box was found, and it contained the Buddha's tooth.
