Deng's speech emphasized that:
·Emancipating the mind is an important political issue;
·Democracy is an important precondition for emancipating the mind;
·We should look forward when handling problems from the past; and
·Research needs to be conducted on new social situations in order to solve new issues that have arisen, such as management methods and economic policies. Some districts, entrepreneurs, workers and farmers should be allowed to become rich first.
