'''Chiang Ching-kuo''', the son of [[Chiang Kai-shek]], was born in Fenghua, [[Zhejiang Province]], in 1911. He defied his Nationalist father by joining the [CPC|Chinese Communist Party]] and remained in exile in Russia for 12 years, returning to China shortly before the outbreak of the war with Japan. When Chiang Kai-shek fell from power in 1949, Ching-kuo accompanied him to Taiwan, and assumed the "presidency" of Taiwan following his father's death in 1978.

Chiang Ching-kuo died on January 13, 1988 in Taipei.
