'''Ah Cheng'''(Chinese:阿城) (real name Zhong Acheng) was born in [[Beijing]] on [[April 5]], [[1949]]. His ancestral home is [[Sichuan Province]]. Son of [[Zhong Dianfei]], the well-known film theorist, Ah Cheng was influenced by his father and developed a deep love of literature and art. Before finishing his high school education during the [[Cultural Revolution]], Ah Cheng spent time in Sichuan and [[Yunnan]] provinces and [[Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region]].

After his return to Beijing in 1979, he served as a worker in the China Book Import and Export Company. Ah Cheng began his literary career in 984 with the publication of his maiden work, ''The Chess King'', which won the National Prize for the Best Novelette of the year. Soon afterwards, he wrote several new works, including ''The King of Children'' and ''The King of Trees'', both of which were highly acclaimed.

In 1985, Ah Cheng wrote a series of short stories entitled ''There Are Talents Everywhere''. His style is subtle and elusive, yet simple and straightforward.

In recent years, Ah Cheng has also been active in film articles. Apart from producing a number of scenarios, including ''A Great Star'' and ''The Action of Hurricanes'', he also adapted several film scripts, such as the script based on the novelette ''The Story of Xiao Yue'' by [[Jia Pingwa]] and the script for the film ''A Small Town Called Hibiscus'' from the novel of the same title.

His main works include ''The Chess King''(1985), ''The King of Children'' (1985), ''There Are Talents Everywhere'' (1985), and ''The King of Trees'' (1986).
