The '''11th Asian Games''' kicked off with a grand celebration at the [[Beijing Workers' Stadium]] on [[CIIC:Selected anniversaries/September 22, 2009|September 22]], [[1990]]. Some 5,200 athletes from 36 countries and regions competed in 27 sports during the 14-day event, setting 42 new Asian records, 98 new Asian Games records and four world records as well as equaling five world records. China took 341 medals, including 183 gold, 107 silver and 51 bronze medals, ranking first in the overall and gold medal counts.&lt;br /&gt;
